The International Assistance Dog Alliance (IADA) recognizes and supports organizations and trainers that demonstrate the highest standards in the training, placement, and follow-up care of assistance dog teams. Our Member Organizations have proven their commitment to ethical treatment of clients and dogs, humane training methods, sound operational practices, and ongoing professional development. Candidate Members are growing programs working toward these same high standards, supported by IADA.

Areas We Evaluate

Our membership and accreditation process looks at the whole of your program, including:

  • Ethical and fair treatment of clients

  • Humane and effective training methods for dogs

  • Proper health care, welfare, and safety standards

  • Facility safety and cleanliness

  • Careful screening and matching of dogs and clients

  • Sound governance and operational practices

  • Compliance with all applicable legal requirements

  • Ongoing follow-up and support for clients and dogs

Our Process

​

Membership is selective to protect the integrity of our network. All applicants must complete:

  1. Application – Share details of your mission, operations, training programs, and results.

  2. Interview – Discuss your program with IADA assessors to ensure alignment with our values and standards.

  3. References – Provide professional endorsements from industry peers, partner organizations, and clients.

Accreditation is achieved through an assessment, which may include:

  • Review of documents, policies, and client/dog records

  • Observation of training sessions and client interactions

  • Interviews with staff, volunteers, and clients

​

Accredited members are re-evaluated periodically to ensure standards are consistently met.
